Visiting Root’s Country Market and Auction is a local tradition you should enjoy while you’re in town. Open every Tuesday, this family-run market features goods and gifts from over 200 vendors. You’ll find fresh food, flowers, collectibles, handmade crafts, and more.

2. Visit the Wolf Sanctuary

For a unique outing you couldn’t experience anywhere else, visit the Wolf Sanctuary of PA, located just five minutes from the Inn. This nonprofit organization provides homes for 49 Speedwell wolves who are without a safe place to live. The sanctuary consists of over 80 acres of land and has become an educational facility where community members and guests can get an intimate look at the important work being done on behalf of these wonderful animals. Tours are available Tuesday and Thursday with a reservation, and Saturday and Sunday without a reservation.

Goodbye from Swiss Woods…

After an amazingly wonderful 37 years Werner and I are pulling in the shingle. We will retire from innkeeping on October 31, 2022. The property will close as well because we are fortunate enough to be able to stay here.

We want to thank each and every one of you who trusted us with your vacation time, who returned time and again and have become friends. We could not have asked for a better innkeeping experience.

For your future stays in Lancaster County we highly recommend the Historic Smithton Inn in Ephrata, also a Select Registry inn.  Also: The Lancaster County Bed and Breakfast Association has inns all over the county and Select Registry has amazing inns all over the United States.

We can be reached by email at and for the time being our phone will also be connected. 717.627.3358.

Our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you. We wish you God’s blessing.
